And this is the house from the back. It faces pretty much due north and receives little direct sunlight except during the summer. There is a protruding two storey back block which houses the kitchen and a bedroom on the first floor. Because the house is in a conservation area (in case you don’t know what this means, it is a type zone that we have in the UK to protect old, characterful buildings), we are not allowed to insulate externally either on the front or on the back because it can also be seen from the street.
